Steps of Elevator Maintenance and Rope Replacement

1.1 Initial Elevator Inspection

  • Inspect the rope anchorage point, including bolts and structural plates.
  • Check the rope socket cover to prevent dust and moisture.
  • Measure the rope diameter with a vernier caliper to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Inspect the rope duct / pit floor conduit to ensure safe passage for new ropes

    • 1.2 Traction & Deflector Sheave Inspection

  • Check groove conditions to ensure no cuts or wear.
  • Inspect the deflector sheave with brake device for proper functionality.

    • 1.3 Wire Rope Replacement

  • Remove old ropes from the sheave system.
  • Thread the new ropes into grooves and adjust tension evenly.
  • Verify rope seating according to safety standards.

    • 1.4 Traction Machine & Gear Oil Inspection

  • Inspect the traction motor and nameplate data (power, voltage, RPM).
  • Check the inverter (VFD – Variable Frequency Drive) settings for proper operation.
  • Refill with traction machine gear oil (#320) to lubricate gears and extend lifespan.

    • 1.5 Final Testing & Safety Check

  • Test elevator travel (up/down) after rope replacement.
  • Check brake operation and smooth acceleration/deceleration.
  • Record results in the inspection report to certify safety.
