The Importance of Retaining Walls in Project Development
The Honda Motorcycle Dealership and Service Center in Phuket has implemented a complete civil engineering system, particularly in the design and construction of retaining walls. Retaining walls play a crucial role in ensuring the structural stability of buildings and long-term usability.
A retaining wall not only resists earth and water pressure, but also serves as a barrier against soil erosion and bank collapse along canals, reducing scouring issues and channeling water flow systematically—providing both safety and stability to the surrounding area.
Construction Details of the Honda Phuket Retaining Wall
1.1 Durable Retaining Wall Design Against Erosion
The structure uses reinforced concrete (RC Retaining Wall), designed to withstand both earth and hydrostatic pressure. Weep holes were integrated to relieve water pressure behind the wall and ensure stability.
1.2 Canal-Side Retaining Wall for Scour Protection
The retaining wall runs parallel to the canal, functioning as slope protection to prevent soil movement and scouring during rainy seasons, thereby enhancing the project’s surrounding stability.
1.3 Bridge and Rest Shelter Construction
The project includes a reinforced concrete slab bridge (RC Slab Bridge) to connect both sides of the canal, with steel guard rails installed for safety. A steel shelter has also been added to provide a workspace or rest area for maintenance crews.
1.4 High-Quality Materials with Engineering Standards
From foundation works and concrete casting to guard rail installation, all steps use high-quality materials inspected and certified under both Thai Industrial Standards (TIS) and international standards, ensuring durability and safety for long-term use.
